The Minnesota Twins continued their struggles on the road, falling by a score of 4-2 to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon. The loss gave the Twins their fourth straight loss and completed a three-game sweep against a Royals team that is last place in the AL Central.
Sunday’s game featured Jose Berrios on the mound, but his performance continued to be uneven allowing a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-RBI single by Hunter Dozier.
The Twins struck back in the top of the third, delivering an RBI single by Max Kepler and an RBI groundout by Jorge Polanco to tie the game at 2-2, but that didn’t last long as Berrios gave up the lead on a sacrifice fly from Salvador Perez.
The Royals added onto their lead in the sixth when Maikel Franco launched a home run just inside the left-field foul pole to put the Twins into a 4-2 hole and the strong Royals bullpen helped preserve the victory.
The Twins fall to 10-6 with the loss and will return to Target Field on Monday night to start a two-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Twins will send Randy Dobnak (2-1, 0.60 ERA) to the mound to oppose Adrian Houser (1-0, 0.75 ERA) in the opener which is slated for 7:05 p.m.
