Minnesota sports fans have been commiserating for more than a month since the Vikings’ heartbreaking loss in the playoffs. If a fan has breathed a breath of fresh air, it likely froze their lungs.
- Wild: 3 wins since the Dec. 31
- Wolves: fifth worst record in the NBA
- Gophers men’s basketball: 0-12 in the Big Ten; worst start in program history
- Gophers men’s hockey: 2-13 in their last 15 games against in-state rivals
Those four teams have combined to win 15 of 62 games in 2016, and seven of those victories belong to Don Lucia’s hockey team. Take those away and the Wild, Wolves and Gophers basketball team have won 8 of 50 games. That’s an incredibly bad .138 winning percentage, which is only slightly better than a 2-14 NFL team.
Think about this way, the worst seasons in Timberwolves franchise history produced higher winning percentages (.186 in 1992 and 2010) than the .138 clip that trio is rolling with in 2016. Even the 1962 New York Mets, who lost 120 games, had a winning percentage of .250.
