Jerry Kill’s Golden Gophers football team doesn’t have as many players on the roster as it did yesterday.
Junior linebacker Lamonte Edwards was kicked off the team Wednesday, according to the Star Tribune.
According to a search warrant, Edwards was arrested after stealing an iPhone from a weight room on June 18. GPS tracking led police to Edwards, who claimed the phone belonged to his cousin. He later admitted that he stole the phone.
Edwards was expected to compete for a starting outside linebacker job.
He graduated from Woodbury High School in 2010 and was part of a Minnesota recruiting class that also included offensive linemen Seantrel Henderson and Jimmy Gjere.
