Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s hockey head coach Don Lucia named his team captains for the 2014-15 season on Friday.
Senior forward Kyle Rau was named captain, along with alternate captains and fellow seniors Seth Ambroz and Ben Marshall.
“We’re happy to name Kyle, Ben, and Seth as our captains for the season,” Lucia said, according to Examiner.com. “They’re great representatives of our program and the University of Minnesota, as is our entire senior class, and we’ll rely on all of them to set the tone for our team this season.”
Rau was a team captain last year along with forward Nate Condon, who according to GopherSports.com, has signed to play for the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. Condon also took a funny jab on Twitter at Marshall and Ambroz.
Congrats to @BenjaminM_10 and @Ambroz17 on getting the A. 4 years of campaigning finally pays off. #frontofline

Rau, like former Gopher and budding NHL star Nick Bjugstad, is a prospect of the Florida Panthers. The former Eden Prairie star is Minnesota’s active leading scorer with 123 points (47 goals, 76 assists) in 121 career games.
Marshall played his high school hockey at Mahtomedi. Ambroz played at New Prague.
The Gophers skate into the 2014-15 season Oct. 10-12 at the Ice Breaker Tournament in South Bend, Indiana. Minnesota-Duluth, Notre Dame and RPI join the Gophers in the tournament.
