If Thursday’s performance was Kyle Gibson’s last with the Twins, it was certainly one of his best. The former first-round pick pitched eight innings and allowed just one run as the Twins beat the Red Sox 2-1 at Fenway Park.
Gibson has been rumored in numerous trade rumors involving teams like the Brewers and Yankees, threw 120 pitches and allowed just four hits while striking out seven in eight awesome innings.
The veteran right-hander finished his night with a 1-2-3 eighth inning in which he set down the heart of Boston’s potent lineup – Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi and J.D. Martinez – in order.
It was Gibson’s 12th quality start and he lowered his ERA 3.42 on the season. He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in 16 of his 20 starts this season.

The Twins trailed Boston 1-0 until Ehire Adrianza’s RBI groundout tied the game in the seventh inning, and Mitch Garver’s RBI double gave Minnesota a 2-1 lead in the eighth.
It was just the fourth time in 60 games this season that the Red Sox lost when leading over six innings.
Cleveland was idle so the Twins are now seven games back in the AL Central division entering play Friday.
The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday, July 31.
