The Minnesota Wild defeated the Arizona Coyotes 2-0 on Thursday night at the Xcel Energy Center.
It was the third win of the season for the Wild. All three wins have been shutouts by goaltender Darcy Kuemper. Kuemper stopped all 26 shots he faced in the victory.
Neither team scored early but Charlie Coyle got Minnesota on the scoreboard early in the second period with his second goal of the season. The goal was extra sweet for Coyle, who signed a five-year contract extension with the Wild through the 2019-20 season.
Jared Spurgeon and Thomas Vanek picked up assists on Coyle’s goal.
Minutes later Jason Pominville scored his second goal of the season. Spurgeon assisted on that goal, as well. It was his 10th career multi-point night.
It was the first Wild home game in nearly two weeks.
Spurgeon said it's been so long since #mnwild played here, "it felt like the home opener again."

Wild coach Mike Yeo said the game was what he expected with long layoffs on both ends of their two game road trip last weekend.

“You can just tell we aren’t quite there right now,” said Yeo after the game. “Early on I thought we were very reactive, whereas we usually get out and dictate the pace in the first period.”
The Wild get back on the ice on Saturday night against Tampa Bay. Face off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
