The Minnesota Wild couldn’t win a game without Josh Harding in net the first three months of the season.
Now, with Harding still sidelined with an undisclosed illness, the combination of Niklas Backstrom and Darcy Kuemper seemingly can’t lose, and Kuemper once again made good on his opportunity Sunday, shutting out Nashville 4-0.
In his second start of 2014 and third of the year, the third-string goalie stopped 23 Predators shots after holding the Kings to one goal Tuesday for his first win of the year.
Backstrom, who got the night off, started the season 2-9-2, but has won three of his last four starts, combining with Kuemper to give Minnesota five wins in their last six games.
Goal scorers for the Wild Sunday were Dany Heatley, Jason Zucker, Matt Cooke, and Marco Scandella, while Charlie Coyle picked up two assists on the lamp-lighters.
The Wild host Ottawa Tuesday at the Xcel Energy Center.
