The Wild are showing the true meaning of home ice advantage, as they once again came out on top at the X, a 2-1 victory over Winnipeg, their sixth straight win at home.
It was tied going into the third period, and coming to the final minutes it looked as if the Wild were going to overtime for the fourth time in five games.
Mikko Koivu though, had other ideas.
Koivu took a feed from Charlie Coyle, who was forced up against the boards, and picked out the top left corner of Ondrej Pavelec’s net to give Minnesota the lead for good.
The other goal also came off Koivu’s stick as the first period was winding down. He now has four goals on the season.
Matt Dumba returned to the Wild lineup after being scratched six of the last seven games, and saw almost 12 minutes on the ice, blocking one shot.
Once again Josh Harding got the win for the Wild, his eighth in his past nine appearances for Minnesota.
It’s Minnesota’s sixth straight road win, the first time they’ve done that in two years.
The Wild return to action Tuesday in Montreal against the Canadiens.
