Chris Kluwe will spend all day today meeting with a team of Vikings investigators, according to a FOX 9 report.
Kluwe’s attorney told FOX 9 that the former Vikings punter was expected to arrive in Minnesota Thursday night. The Vikings hired a team of investigators to determine the validity of claims made by Kluwe against former head coach Leslie Frazier, general manager Rick Spielman and special teams coordinator Mike Priefer.
In an article published by Deadspin on Jan. 2, Kluwe called Frazier and Spielman “cowards” and Priefer a “bigot” for allegedly trying limit his support for same-sex marriage. Kluwe took a hard stance against Priefer, maintaining that he routinely made homophobic remarks during team meetings, even going as far as to admonish Kluwe in front of his teammates for supporting same-sex marriage. Kluwe believes it was part of the reason he was released by the Vikings following the 2012 season.
Priefer “vehemently” denied the allegations.
Kluwe’s wife will be involved in the meetings with investigators because she witnessed some of the alleged conversations between Priefer and her husband. She is the only known witness.
Kluwe hasn’t named any of his former teammates as witnesses, but he will if he’s asked by investigators.
Frazier was fired by the Vikings following a disappointing 5-10-1 season. He was recently hired as the defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Spielman and Priefer remain with the Vikings – though many of Priefer’s coaching colleagues have been let go as new head coach Mike Zimmer assembles his own staff.
