Kirk Cousins wants to stay in Minnesota for the long haul. That’s what he told Brett Favre on the former gunslinger’s Sirius XM NFL radio show on Thursday.
Cousins’ response seemed to happen naturally after Favre, who played in Minnesota for two seasons (2009-10) praised the organization.
“Absolutely, and I think that’s where it starts. To have a chance as a quarterback to win those big games it starts with great ownership, great management, people bringing the right people around you so you can succeed as a quarterback,” said Cousins.
“We have a great home advantage when we play here. Our fans are outstanding, our new stadium is outstanding and I just feel very privileged to be the quarterback here because not every organization can claim some of the things that we have going here. We gotta to turn it into wins as much as possible so I can stay here as long as possible. I joke with everybody that ‘guys we’ve got to win because I like it here and I’d like to stay.'”

Cousins, 31, has one year left on his contract after this season. In the last six weeks, Cousins has gone from the doghouse to the penthouse, but back in early October the only conversations involving Cousins’ name were about how the Vikings can’t trust him in big spots.
Long time NFL reporter Peter King literally suggested that the NFL’s rising salary cap could help take the sting out of cutting Cousins next season, which would force Minnesota to pay his $30.5 million cap hit.
Since then, Cousins has put up some of the best numbers in the NFL, throwing for more than 1,700 yards with 15 touchdowns and only one turnover, an interception that bounced off Stefon Diggs’ helmet.
Later in the interview, Cousins praised Favre’s jovial style of play and said he needs to stop taking football as seriously as he does.
“At times people tell me, ‘hey man just go have fun.’ I’m thinking, ‘I’ve got the weight of the world on my shoulders, I gotta deliver,'” Cousins said. “If anything I take it too seriously. I’ve had to remind myself that seriousness is not a virtue. This is a child’s game, go out there and have fun.”
