Kirk Cousins underwent successful surgery to repair the torn Achilles tenon in his right leg early Wednesday morning, less than 72 hours after he suffered the season-ending injury in the Vikings’ 24-10 win over the Packers at Lambeau Field.
“Surgery was a success!” Cousins tweeted at 9:21 a.m. CT. “Grateful for your prayers, Dr. Coetzee’s abilities, and our medical team. Would appreciate continued prayers! One day at a time…”

Dr. Chris Coetzee, an official team physician of the Vikings who travels with the team, performed the surgery at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Eagan, which is located very close to the Vikings’ headquarters at TCO Performance Center in Eagan.
Here’s the statement from the Vikings about Cousins’ surgery.
“Kirk Cousins underwent successful surgery to repair his torn Achilles tendon this morning at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Eagan, Minn. The surgery was led by Dr. Chris Coetzee. The team will continue to provide updates, as appropriate, during Cousins’ recovery process.”

Cousins, 35, is due to become a free agent in March. The big question going forward is if Minnesota will bring him back as the starting quarterback in 2024. Head coach Kevin O’Connell intimated Tuesday that he’s all for Cousins playing for the Vikings in the future.
“Kirk Cousins is going to be healthy again. I know he’s going to be a free agent after this season, but Kirk knows how I feel about him, and that will be something that will hopefully works itself out,” O’Connell said.
