The Minnesota Twins announced Tuesday that Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett will throw the ceremonial first pitch for their home opener.
The Twins host division-rival Kansas City in their home opener on April 13th at Target Field.
Garnett returned to the Timberwolves on Feb. 19 after he was traded to the Wolves from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Thaddeus Young. Garnett was drafted by the Wolves in 1995 and played for them through 2007.
It is a similar career path to that of Twins outfielder Torii Hunter, who played for the Twins from 1997-2007, before leaving via free agency. Hunter returned to the Twins on a one-year $10.5 million during the offseason.

“That’s kind of a neat homecoming for he and Torii,” said Twins General Manager Terry Ryan. “I’m glad that Kevin Garnett has accepted our invitation. Anybody who has lived [in Minnesota] knows his place in our sports history.”
The Star Tribune notes that it’s not the first time Garnett will throw out the first pitch at a Major League Baseball game. After he was traded to Boston, KG tossed out the first pitch at Fenway Park on Aug. 1, 2007. At that time, he also threw to a familiar face: former Twins turned Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.
