Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin has been out since pouring in 37 points for the Wolves in a Nov. 19 victory over the New York Knicks.
The amazing thing about that night was he scored most of those points after breaking his wrist in the first quarter – then missed the next 34 games, because of the injury. Martin underwent surgery on Nov. 25 in Cleveland and has been out of lineup since.
That could end tonight, as Martin has been nearing his return. According to the Star Tribune’s Jerry Zgoda, he expects to play.

Martin had been averaging 20.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in nine games for the Wolves this season. He shot around before Monday’s game in Oklahoma City and told Zgoda that he needed one more practice day on Tuesday and that he hoped to play on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Martin was still listed as out, but was upgraded to questionable as Wednesday continued.

While Martin is close to coming back, it sounds like Ricky Rubio may not be far behind. Wolves coach Flip Saunders told reporters Sunday that he was hopeful both Martin and Rubio would be back within a week.
Wouldn’t that make for another interesting story line when Kevin Love makes his return to Target Center with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night?
