The NBA All-Star break will give him time to heal, but Kevin Martin could miss another 2-3 weeks with a broken thumb on his left hand, as reported by USA Today.
The word “could” doesn’t exactly mean Martin won’t miss more than 2-3 weeks. USA Today’s source, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, simply said Martin will be re-evaluated in two or three weeks.
Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune says he could “imagine” Martin’s injury keeping him out until sometime in March, or closer to three weeks than two.
Martin suffered a non-displaced fracture of the thumb on his non-shooting hand in a loss against the New Orleans Pelicans last Friday. It’s a big blow to the Wolves because he is second on the team in scoring, averaging 19 points per game and he leads the team in 3-point shooting (39.9 percent).
The Wolves have gone 0-2 in Martin’s absence, losing to Portland on Saturday and Houston on Monday.
The Timberwolves wrap up the pre-All-Star break portion of the schedule tonight against the Denver Nuggets before getting a week off. If Zgoda is correct and Martin’s injury stretches into March, the Wolves will be without him for at least the remaining four games in February (Pacers, Jazz, Trail Blazers, Suns).
