After a 5-2 road trip to Cleveland and Tampa Bay, a pair of Minnesota Twins will share the American League Player of the Week award.
Outfielder Max Kepler and first baseman Joe Mauer were named the co-American League Players of the Week after leading the Twins at the plate last week.
Kepler, a rookie, began the week with a three-homer, 6 RBI performance against the Indians on Aug. 1. He hit four home runs and drove in 11 to earn his first career weekly honor.
“I’m not a home run hitter, so it’s rare,” Kepler told Twinsbaseball.com. “I’m just trying to hit singles. I’m just trying to put the ball in play and hit it hard. I’m thankful for the backspin I was blessed with.”
It’s the fourth time in his career he’s won a weekly honor – the second time this year.
