After setting a new Target Field attendance record Friday night, Kenny Chesney has left the Twin Cities, but big crowds will remain all weekend in Minneapolis.
The Pioneer Press reports that the country music superstar’s No Shoes Nation Tour stop drew a whopping 43,940 fans, topping the outdoor ballpark’s attendance mark by 43 which was set by Chesney and Tim McGraw last summer. The Star Tribune says Chesney delivered good music and good fun, and the concert attracted some of the “best people watching this side of the State Fair.”
You can check out several thousand more music-loving Minnesotans on Saturday at the Basilica Block Party where Matchbox Twenty, Raphael Saadiq and the Goo Goo Dolls play the main stage. An estimated 25,000 people are expected to attend the Basilica Block Party, which has raised over $4 million since it began 19 years ago.
Also this weekend, the Aquatennial’s “Best Days of Summer” is now underway and runs through July 20. The famous Milk Carton Boat Races and sandcastle building competition will result in the closure of West Lake Calhoun Pkwy. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the Star Tribune.
And if all of this wasn’t enough, the paper reports that about 3,000 athletes and thousands of spectators are expected on Lake Nokomis on Saturday for the LifeTime Fitness Triathlon. The race was scheduled to start around 7 a.m.
These roads will be closed during the competition and afterward for clean up from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday:
* West River Parkway from Godfrey Pkwy to Portland Avenue
* Lake Nokomis Parkway around the lake
* All of West Lake Calhoun Pkwy.
