Balancing health and putting the best roster possible on the floor to move up the playoff ladder is a difficult job for the Timberwolves and that has never been more apparent than ahead of their Monday night road game against the Sacramento Kings.
After pulling out a huge win Sunday at Golden State, the Timberwolves will not have Karl-Anthony Towns against the Kings and Anthony Edwards is 50-50 to play because of his right ankle sprain.
Towns has been ruled out for “right calf strain injury management,” the team announced. The 7-footer missed 51 consecutive games before his return last week and it’s clear that Minnesota is not going to allow him to play on back-to-back nights just yet.
Edwards missed three games in a row with a right ankle sprain before returning Sunday to face the Warriors. He played 35 minutes and said afterward that his legs were tired.
Every game is critical for Minnesota as they are a half game behind the Warriors for sixth in the Western Conference but only two games ahead of the 11th place Mavericks.
Sacramento (45-29) sits third in the West and is 1-2 against Minnesota this season.
If Edwards doesn’t play, expect the likes of Mike Conley, Kyle Anderson, Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid and Taurean Prince to balance out the scoring duties.
