The Minnesota Timberwolves might get a boost in the starting lineup on Wednesday night as center Karl-Anthony Towns is expected to return after testing positive for COVID-19 per Stadium’s Shams Charania.
While Charania’s report says the Timberwolves will get their star back in the starting lineup, Towns wasn’t so sure, responding to the report by saying “This is news to me!”

Towns’ return to the Timberwolves has been clouded in uncertainty since testing positive for the virus on Jan. 15. In addition to his recovery, Towns cited underlying conditions that have played a role in losing seven family members due to the virus.
If Towns does return to the Wolves against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, it will be a huge boost for Minnesota. The Wolves are 6-18 on the season and 4-16 without Towns in the lineup.
What’s more interesting is that if Towns suits up, Timberwolves fans may finally have a chance to play with D’Angelo Russell. The two have played in just five games since Russell was acquired in February 2020 and have never played in three consecutive games since Russell’s arrival in Minnesota.
With Russell also questionable with left leg soreness, it remains to be seen whether the Timberwolves foundational duo will hit the court together on Wednesday night.
