Before Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards – in which Karl-Anthony Towns is up for Gatorade Player of the Year – the Timberwolves forward was a guest panelist at Gatorade’s “Play It Forward” breakfast.
Towns told the audience of kids that the recent contracts NBA players have been receiving (due to the league’s salary cap increase) are not the reason to play the game.
“This game has meant everything to me,” said Towns, “I would be in the NBA with money or without money. I’d play for free. That’s the reason I play this game.”
Towns went on to talk about how money exists everywhere you go, but said it’s the passion and love of the game that’s most important.
For Towns the Kid’s Choice Awards are the latest event in a busy summer that’s seen KAT playing 1-on-1 with Jimmy Kimmel, traveling to China with Nike and even interviewing potential NBA Draft products last month.
