Karl-Anthony Towns was named to the Western Conference team as a reserve by NBA coaches on Thursday. It’s the second consecutive season Towns will play in the annual game.
Towns was at the movies – with his parents – treating the Wolves and Lynx staff to an advanced screening of “What Men Want” in which he cameos. After hearing his selection, Towns was overcome by emotion.

At last year’s game, Towns netted 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
In 51 games this season, Towns is averaging 22.6 points and 12.1 rebounds, while shooting 49.8 percent from the floor and 37.6 percent from behind the arc.
He’s one of seven Timberwolves all time named All-Stars, joining: Kevin Garnett, Tom Gugliotta, Wally Szczerbiak, Sam Cassell, Kevin Love and Jimmy Butler.
Towns is coming off a heroic win on Jan. 30 when he hit a buzzer-beating shot in overtime against the Memphis Grizzlies.
This year’s game will be played at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina on Feb. 17.
