It came as no surprise to Timberwolves fans that forward Karl-Anthony Towns was named the Kia NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month for November Thursday.
Towns led all Western Conference rookies by averaging 14.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.18 blocks per game. He also led all NBA rookies in field goal percentage at 52.6 percent and made 86.7 percent of his free throws.
He’s the seventh player in franchise history to win Rookie of the Month honors, joining Andrew Wiggins, Gorgui Dieng, Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love, Randy Foye and Stephon Marbury.
Towns was still rather grounded after hearing that he was going to win the award.
“It’s a testament to the time I put in over the summer to come out and start hot” Towns said. “But it’s just one month, the season is a compilation of months, to not just have one rookie of the month award but to have a great team record and have the season that we imagine ourselves having.”

The NBA Rookie of the Month isn’t a new award for the Wolves; Wiggins won it five times last season on his way to being named the Kia NBA Rookie of the Year.
Additionally, Towns had eight double-doubles including a 14-point, 12-rebound effort Oct. 28 in his NBA debut against the Los Angeles Lakers. He followed that up by scoring 28 points and grabbing 14 rebounds against Denver just two nights later. That made Towns the youngest player in NBA history to notch double-doubles in the first two games of his career.
On Nov. 18 Towns became the seventh player in team history to record a 20-plus-point, 10-rebound and 5-block game.
The Wolves and Towns return to the court Saturday night against Portland.
