An NBA.com survey recently revealed that 82.6 percent of NBA general managers would start a franchise with Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans.
Davis, the 22-year-old fourth-year power forward/center, is averaging 20.8 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks per game this season. Davis already has two All-Star appearances and an All-NBA First Team honor on his resumé.
Timberwolves rookie Karl-Anthony Towns might not be dropping jaws just yet, but he is opening eyes across the NBA.
Through three games, Towns, the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, is averaging 17.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.
NBA analyst David Thorpe says the 19-year-old Towns is starting to convince him that his upside is higher than Davis’.

Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix already thinks Towns might be the Wolves’ best player, and he’s says that’s “scary.”

Michael Rand of the Star Tribune thinks Towns might end up being Minnesota’s most beloved young star. The other stars in the making: Teddy Bridgewater and Stefon Diggs of the Vikings, Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton of the Twins, Matt Dumba and Jason Zucker of the Wild, and Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine of the Wolves.
Towns is doing things that the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley and only a few other NBA youngsters have done before. Since 1985, Towns is one of only six players age 23 or younger to record at least 50 points, 30 rebounds, and 5 blocks while shooting at least 50 percent through the first three games of the season, according to Basketball Reference. And Towns is the only rookie to do it.
