If Twins fans were polled prior to Tuesday’s 4-1 win over the Cardinals and asked if they know who Bobby Wilson is, we’d wager a decent amount of money on the majority admitting they’ve never heard of him.
They have now after Wilson delivered his first home run in 601 at-bats, and it was a big one, a three-run shot to break a 1-1 tie and give the Twins a 4-1 lead in the seventh inning.
Wilson is basically the backup to the backup, getting to play because Jason Castro is out with a torn meniscus and Mitch Garver can’t start at catcher every night in Castro’s place.
Wilson also called a wonderful game behind the plate for Jose Berrios, who fanned 10 Cardinals over 7 1/3 innings. Berrios allowed just one run on two hits and a pair of walks.
The Twins are now a perfect 3-0 against the Cardinals this season and they’ll go for another two-game sweep Wednesday with Lance Lynn on the mound. First pitch from Target Field at 12:10 p.m.
