José Berríos turned in a dominating performance on Tuesday night but the Chicago White Sox took advantage of a pair of key errors to defeat the Minnesota Twins 4-1.
Berríos looked sharp despite pitching in drizzly conditions throughout the evening. The right-hander held Chicago to one hit over seven innings while striking out 10 but it was a sloppy second inning that handed him the loss.

After Brian Goodwin and Leury García led off the inning with walks, a throwing error by Ryan Jeffers allowed Goodwin to advance to third base. Berríos struck out Gavin Sheets and forced Andrew Vaughn to fly out for the first two outs of the inning but a fielding error by Miguel Sanó allowed Goodwin to advance to second base.
With two runners in scoring position, Zack Collins delivered a two-run single to give the White Sox a 2-0 lead.
That support was more than enough for White Sox starter Carlos Rodón who was just as masterful against the Twins lineup. Rodón tossed six innings while striking out eight and the Twins couldn’t capitalize until Alex Kirilloff delivered an RBI single in the sixth inning.

The White Sox maintained their 2-1 lead heading into the eighth when Alexander Colomé relieved Berríos. The right-hander’s struggles continued when Adam Eaton collected an RBI single and Jose Abreu added a sacrifice fly to give the White Sox a 4-1 lead.
The rain at Target Field picked up heading into the ninth and with former Twin Liam Hendriks on the mound, Billy Hamilton got dirty with a diving catch to put the Twins away.

The Twins (35-49) will go for the series victory on Wednesday afternoon when Michael Pineda makes his first start off the injured list to oppose Lance Lynn.
