Minnesota Twins shortstop Jorge Polanco hit two home runs in Saturday night’s 9-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals but his performance continues to re-write the Twins’ record book.
After Byron Buxton got the Twins on the board with a 444-foot home run in the first inning, Polanco followed suit with his 28th bomb of the season to double the lead.

Nick Gordon joined the homer party in the third inning, giving the Twins a 3-0 lead before Andrew Benintendi drove in a run with an RBI single in the fourth.
Max Kepler homered to make it a 4-1 game again before Polanco hit his second blast of the night, giving the Twins a 6-1 lead in the fifth.

Polanco’s 29th home run of the season tied a franchise record for most homers by a switch hitter. It’s made for a fine rebound season after Polanco battled through an ankle injury in 2020. Aside from the homers, he’s hit .282/.336/.521 with 86 RBI in 132 games this season.
If it weren’t for the Twins disappointing season, it’s possible that Polanco could be in the middle of a dark horse MVP campaign. Instead, he appears to be part of the solution as the Twins look for a return to contention in 2022.
