Among the Gopher fans who made the trip to Fresno State for Saturday night’s double-overtime thriller was music icon John Legend, who was there to cheer on one of his favorite college football teams: Minnesota.
Michael Brown-Stephens, a wide receiver out of Ohio, signed with the Gophers last year and is in his freshman season at the U of M.
He just so happens to be the nephew of John Stephens, AKA John Legend, who noted last December that he’ll now have trouble figuring out who to root for when the Gophers play his favorite team, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
But when Minnesota isn’t playing the Buckeyes, Legend is a proud member of the Maroon & Gold cheering section.

“Glad you guys won because it would have been hard to come back if you took an L,” Legend joked with the Gophers after the game, according to radio sideline reporter Justin Gaard.
His quote to nephew: “Glad you guys won because it would have been hard to come back if you took an L.’ 😂 crazy having John Legend in the locker room. https://t.co/kxzq15qrN6

Legend was treated to a great finish, as Minnesota stunned the Bulldogs with a touchdown on 4th-and-13 with under a minute to go in the fourth quarter, then won in double overtime on a breathtaking interception by Antoine Winfield Jr.
