On the mend from a concussion, Twins catcher Joe Mauer talked to the media Thursday before the Minnesota-Kansas City game at Target Field.
He says that “shutting down” has never entered his mind, and that he “wants to get out there” the last four weeks of the season.
Mauer says he’s been sensitive to light and sounds, but his symptoms have “gotten better” the past several days.
Mauer has been out since Aug. 19 when he took a foul tip off his facemask in a game against the Mets. The Star Tribune also reports this isn’t Mauer’s first concussion.
The Twins still are in no rush to get their All-Star catcher back in the lineup, and have no timetable for his return. He won’t play in this weekend’s series against the Texas Rangers, according to the Pioneer Press.
Mauer is one of eight catchers in Major League Baseball to suffer a concussion this season.
