Joe Mauer keeps getting on base and the Twins keep on winning.
Are the two directly related? In some ways, sure, but as Patrick Reusse points out in the Star Tribune, Mauer has been consistent during a stretch of games that looked daunting when Minnesota was coming off a sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays in early August, setting their record back to an even .500 at the time.
Mauer is two games shy of tying his career high of 35 games in a row reaching base.

“We spent a lot of time this year trying to analyze Joe’s year,” Manager Paul Molitor said, via the Pioneer Press. “I just think about what I feel he still does for our team on a daily basis. Regardless of the fact he’s not hitting .330 these days, there’s been a lot of positives. It’s been a nice streak for him.”
The last game Mauer didn’t reach base was Aug. 6 against the Blue Jays. Following that sweep by Toronto, Minnesota was sitting at .500 and staring at a stretch of games that included 19 of 25 on the road.
Instead of folding like a lawn chair, the Twins went 15-10 in that stretch and now – with 20 games to play – they are in the thick of the American League wild card race, just one game behind the Texas Rangers.
Mauer, along with Brian Dozier, Phil Hughes and Brian Duensing, went to the Taylor Swift concert in St. Paul Sunday night.
