After going seizure-free for more than a year, former Gophers football coach Jerry Kill suffered one on Sunday.
The news broke Monday morning when Rutgers head coach Chris Ash gave his weekly press conference. Kill, 56, is in his first season as the offensive coordinator at Rutgers.
Kill took a hit from an Eastern Michigan player on the sideline on Saturday, and that could’ve acted as the trigger for his Sunday seizure, according to NJ.com.
“Coach Kill had a minor medical setback,” Ash said. “He is going to be fine. Saturday, early in the game after the first drive, he got tumbled up. He was really discombobulated in the first half from it and had some headaches Saturday night. It hasn’t been confirmed or identified as the reason yet, but he had a minor seizure Sunday morning. But he is fine. He is still waiting to be released from the hospital. He will be back here this afternoon or tomorrow whenever he feels up to the task.”
While coaching the Gophers from 2011-15, Kill suffered a reported four seizures on game days. He announced his retirement seven games into the 2015 season and was replaced by Tracy Claeys.
Kill’s seizures are a symptom of epilepsy, which he was diagnosed with in 2005.
