MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Gophers (4-1, 0-1 Big Ten) are preparing to host Northwestern (5-1, 1-1) Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium. It’s Homecoming for the maroon and gold, who kicked off the Big 10 season with a thud two weeks ago, losing to Iowa, 31-13.
In his weekly news conference, Gophers head coach Jerry Kill told reporters his team has to play “good, solid football” because Northwestern “won’t beat themselves.”
“We turn the ball over four times and we won’t win,” Kill added.
As for injured quarterback MarQueis Gray, Kill said Gray has a “bit of a limp” and didn’t practice during the bye week (Minnesota didn’t play last Saturday) as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain.
“If we were playing tomorrow, he wouldn’t be ready to play, but we’ll see how things progress,” Kill said. “I would say that we’re cautiously optimistic that he can be available in some situations possibly.”
