Jerry Kill has been back to coaching in a limited role for a few days now, and on Thursday he felt well enough to do his weekly radio show on KFAN-FM 100.3 with Mike Grimm and Mark Rosen.
Kill opened up about his battle with epilepsy during a press conference earlier this week, but he took it a step further on the show.
“I understand my back’s against the wall; I can’t afford any setbacks,” Kill said, via the Star Tribune. “But I beat cancer, and I’ll beat this [epilepsy] eventually.”
Kill had a cancerous tumor removed from his kidney following his 2005 season coaching at Southern Illinois University.
Recruiting has been going better than ever, according to Kill, who has spent more time than usual on the recruiting trail since he has yet to return to his full-time coaching position. Kill’s message to recruits has been that he’s going to be coaching for a long time. If not, “I’ll call you,” he says.
Kill will coach in a limited role from the press box when the Gophers play Indiana on Saturday.
