The football Gophers could field a pair quarterbacks this fall.
At a news conference Tuesday, coach Jerry Kill said sophomore Philip Nelson could share snaps with redshirt freshman Mitch Leidner.
Leidner, according to Pioneer Press, impressed everyone with strong spring practices. Nelson says he will do “whatever we can to win.”
Whoever the quarterback ends up being, expect them to throw the ball frequently to wide receiver Isaac Fruechte.
On the defensive side of the ball, Kill told FOX Sports North that linebacker Aaron Hill, calling him their “strongest leader.”
Kill also said it’s time the Gophers got over the hump and actually win a “signature” game in the Big 10.
As for last year, Kill says for his team to advance to a bowl game after losing three centers and thee quarterbacks is unheard of.
The Gophers open non-conference play on Aug. 29 against UNLV. The Big 10 home opener, against Iowa, is set for Sept. 30.
