Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio has never been known as a shooter. In his six-year career Rubio has shot just 36 percent from the floor. At one point Rubio was statistically the worst shooter in modern NBA history.
And through 30 games this season, Rubio is averaging a career-low 7 points per game.
If anyone knows how Rubio feels, it might be Milwaukee Bucks head coach and former point guard Jason Kidd. Similar to Rubio, Kidd was a pass-first point guard who led the league in assists five times.
Kidd also had a tough time finding his shoot, as he hit under 40 percent from the floor nine different times during his 20-year career.
He eventually was able to find his shot as time went on, and he gave Rubio some words of wisdom. His advice? Be more selfish.
“When you become a little selfish and start thinking about yourself a little bit,” Kidd told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “That’s when your shooting tends to improve.”
This comes after Rubio hit a clutch 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the Timberwolves’ loss to the 76ers on Tuesday.
However, it might not be the best idea for Rubio to shoot more. In Minnesota’s 9 wins this season, Rubio takes just five shots per games. But in their 21 losses Rubio is averaging 6 shots per game.
