Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier made it very clear yesterday that he will not try to coax former Purple corner Antoine Winfield out of retirement, despite earlier in the week saying he would welcome Winfield back.
Frazier yesterday said he texted Winfield, but has not spoken to him, because “you don’t want to talk a guy out of retirement if that’s what he wants to do (be retired).”
Safety Jamarca Sanford looks at things a little differently.
From the Star Tribune: “I will most definitely call him and try and talk him out of retirement,” Sanford said Wednesday. “I’m for sure going to reach out to him and see what he’s thinking. Because I know how much he loves the game.”
Winfield was released by the Seahawks in the final round of cuts and rather than trying to find a new team, opted to retire.
His retirement seems odd considering his production late in his career; he graded out as Pro Football Focus’ best cornerback in football last year.
