It pains me to write this because I, like many of you, have tickets to go see the Twins play the Mariners in their Home Opener April 5 at Target Field.
It’s very likely going to be cold that day.
First, Twin Cities radio meteorologist Mike Lynch of WCCO sent out a numbing tweet that said: “The Minnesota Twins on April 5th it looks cool.. highs maybe only in the 30s…. Don’t kill the messenger!! Hopefully this will change!”
We hope it’ll change, too, Mike. But odds don’t look good considering Jim Cantore, AKA “Mr. Thundersnow,” sent out a tweet with a graphic showing Minnesota under a blue circle with the words “very likely below average” written on it.
February is the NEW March! Take a look at temperatures that are running warmer in February than in March. Many of these will hold through the end of the month!

The Home Opener starts at 3:10 p.m., so maybe we’ll get lucky and at least get some sunshine to warm it up a little bit.
According to the Minnesota DNR, the Twins have only played in sub-40-degree weather during a Home Opener twice, once on April 14, 1962 when it was 34 degrees and again in 2013 when it was 36 degrees on April 1.
