The big waves of NBA free agency have already passed, but something interesting might be happening with the Timberwolves.
Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, arguably the premiere Wolves reporter in the country, told KFAN’s Dan Barreiro on Monday that “some pretty good news” could come out this week.
“There is the potential for some pretty good news to come out of here over the next four or five days, we’ll see if it happens or not,” said Krawczynski, who is in Las Vegas covering the Wolves’ Summer League team.
Krawczynski confirmed that Karl-Anthony Towns could begin discussions with the Wolves this week regarding a possible five-year, $180 million contract extension, but that’s not what Krawcyznski was referring to with his cryptic words.
“There is another thing that I have kind of been summoned out here to do, so we’ll see how that goes,” he said.
If anything, Krawczynski has created some suspense, especially because his mysterious mission comes on the heels of multiple reports that suggest Jimmy Butler doesn’t like playing with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, and that Towns has had his own issues with Minnesota’s front office. in Wolves nation.
But trying to figure out what exactly Krawczynski might be talking about is maddening, so it’s probably best to sit back and wait for something to unfold.
That said, Butler did like someone’s comment on Instagram that said: “jimmy to spurs.”

Butler, who has been traveling the world this summer, later posted a photo on Instagram with the caption: “where to next?” Now we know he’s just messing with everyone.
