Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have P.J. Fleck and the Gophers recruiting you to play football?
Look for no further.
Jirehl Brock, a star high school running back in Iowa who is about to begin his senior season, told some interesting stories about being recruited by Fleck and the Gophers.
Brock said he would get a text or call from a Gophers coach every hour.
“They would text every 30 minutes,” Brock told the Herald-Whig. “It was a lot to take in. You don’t want to be rude about it. You try to be as nice as possible. They were the hardest school to say no to.”
Brock said the Gophers took him to a rollercoaster park, which we assume is ValleyFair, and on a boat cruise across Lake Minnetonka. It was different from what Brock thought it was going to be.
“Before I took my visit, I heard they would put you in the office and lock the doors and put an hourglass upside down and say, ‘You have this much time to commit.’ Good thing they never did that to me,” he told the Whig.
“Talking to Coach Fleck in his office with my parents, it was really tempting to commit because of the approach he takes. He’s a really good guy, don’t get me wrong, but he knows how to make somebody intimidated.”
Fleck is known to be a really good recruiter, so Brock’s story does nothing but validate his bulldog approach on the recruiting trail.
That said, the 4-star running back committed to Iowa State, not the Gophers.
