The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team lost to Iowa on Friday night, suffering a 35-0 loss at TCF Bank Stadium.
The game went south from the opening kick for the Gophers as Iowa took control of the game and never let go. The Hawkeyes got on the board in the first quarter with a Nico Ragiani one-yard touchdown plunge and Tyler Goodson added a seven-yard run in the second quarter to give Iowa a 14-0 lead at the half.
As the Gophers and Hawkeyes battled throughout a scoreless third quarter, Minnesota couldn’t’ get anything going. With Iowa maintaining their lead, they added on in the fourth quarter with a Spencer Petras pass to Ihmir Smith-Marsette to extend the lead to 20-0.
As the Gophers tried to battle back, Tanner Morgan never found his footing throwing his second interception of the game to set up another Tyler Goodson touchdown.
As a team that has not trailed to the Gophers since 2016, Iowa put the finishing touches on the victory with a 14-yard touchdown run by Mark Sargent. Morgan added a late score to Rashod Bateman for the final 35-7 margin.
The Gophers are now 1-3 on the season and will look to turn things around when they host Purdue on Nov. 20.
