What the Vikings will do at next week’s draft continues to be the basis of plenty of speculation.
Minnesota is one of several teams in need of a long-term solution at quarterback that currently sit outside of the top five, where many of the stacked quarterback prospects are projected to be taken. The Vikings became the frontrunner to move up after acquiring a second first-round pick (No. 23).
ESPN’s Kimberley Martin said Thursday morning on Get Up that the team is working the phones in order to pull off a trade before the draft.
The Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling was a guest on Vikings play-by-play broadcaster Paul Allen’s radio show Thursday morning and said he still thinks the teams “Plan A” is to trade up in the draft.”
“We’ve talked about it a dozen times by this point but I still think that’s Plan A and I expect that they’ll get it done,” said Goessling. “I think they will say, ‘We’ll do what it takes to make the deal.'”
Who the Vikings end up trading with remains to be seen. Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort said earlier this offseason that the team was “open” to trade discussions for their No. 4 overall pick. That same sentiment was echoed by New England’s de facto general manager Eliot Wolf Thursday when he told Boston media the team was “open for business” when it comes to trade talks for the No. 3 overall pick.
