Another Twins game and another brutal performance by the starting pitcher.
On Friday night it was left-hander Pedro Hernandez’s turn. His night was over before the sun was fully set.
Hernandez’s first inning featured an RBI triple from Jason Kipnis, RBI doubles from Carlos Santana and Asdrubal Cabrera and a run-scoring single off the bat of Yan Gomes.
After one half inning of baseball it was 4-nothing Cleveland.
Hernandez allowed three more runs in the second and just like that his night was over after 1.2 innings.
The seven-run deficit left Twins fans 8 innings of baseball in which they likely knew their favorite baseball team has no chance to win.
A two-run single by Mike Aviles in the fifth put the Indians up, 9-1.
Pedro Florimon hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Alex Presley drove in a pair of runs with a single in the sixth to make it a bit of a ballgame, but that’s as close as they would get.
Final score: Cleveland 12, Twins 6.
The win puts Cleveland one step closer to a Wild Card berth and the Twins one day closer to the end of another miserable season.
