Lindsay Whalen hasn’t even coached one game of college basketball, but the imprint she’s putting on the Gophers women’s basketball program is already impressive.
Not only does her status as a global basketball star bring attention to the University of Minnesota, it also leads to random run-ins with other superstars. For example, NBA star Dywane Wade stopped by Gophers practice on Saturday.
“Big thanks to @lindsaywhalen and staff for opening up the doors this am to my family and i to come in and get a quick sweat,” Wade posted on Instagram. “It’s also dope talking to the next generation of hoopers!!! Thank you ladies for being so cool as well!!! @gopherwbb.”

It’s unclear what Wade was doing in Minneapolis, but a couple of guesses might be that he’s visiting his good buddy Jimmy Butler of the Timberwolves, or perhaps he’s in the city for Sunday’s Vikings-49ers game.
College basketball success is generally linked to recruiting, and there aren’t many coaches on the planet with as many cool connections as Whalen. Not to mention she has four shiny WNBA championship rings and a brand new athletic complex at the U of M to impress recruits with.
