Virtual recruiting hasn’t slowed down the Gophers’ coaching staff when it comes to recruiting as they continue to land highly touted recruits.
The latest commitment is from 4-star athlete Sam Jackson from Naperville, Illinois.
An evaluation of his abilities from 247Sports describes Jackson as an explosive athlete who can play wide receiver and quarterback.
“Not a prospect who stands out physically on the hoof. Average height and needs to bulk up some. Does stand out on film as far as explosiveness and play-making ability. Fast, makes cuts at full speed and shows great ball skills for someone who has not played full-time receiver yet. Also has a strong arm at quarterback. The main question there is size as far as being a college signal caller. Too explosive and athletic though to not make an impact in college somewhere on offense. Even if it is as a receiver who plays quarterback part-time.”

Jackson chose the Gophers despite having offers from numerous Power Five teams, including Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Oregon, Nebraska, Indiana, Illinois, Purdue and Virginia Tech, among others.
Jackson is the fourth 4-star recruit to commit to Minnesota, joining Avante Dickerson, a cornerback from Nebraska, Athan Kaliakmanis, a quarterback from Illinois, and Steven Ortiz, a cornerback from Arizona.
Another 4-star recruit, defensive end Najee Story, from Ohio, has the Gophers among his final five college choices.
Minnesota’s 2021 recruiting class is currently ranked 5th in the nation, according to 247Sports.
