The Minnesota Wild fell to the Boston Bruins on Monday night 4-1.
The Bruins are tough at home, with the victory they now have an NHL best 28 wins on their home ice. The victory also extended Boston’s winning streak to nine games, according to the Star Tribune.
Jarome Iginla led the Bruins attack. The Boston forward bookended the night with a pair of goals. The first came early in the second when Iginla broke a scoreless tie as he snuck a snap shot passed Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper. Then with just over a minute to go in the game, he scored an empty net goal.
Boston pushed the lead to 2-0 in the second when Loui Eriksson scored his eighth goal of the season.
That would have been enough, as Bruins goalie Tuuku Rask was on his game. He stopped 33 of the 34 shots.
Finally near the end of the second, Minnesota was able to get on the board. Jason Pominville cut the Bruins lead to 2-1, both Ryan Suter and Mikael Granlund assisted.
But in the third, Boston’s Reilly Smith put the game out of reach for Minnesota, he scored on a wrist shot and pushed the Bruins lead back to two.
The Wild will have to rebound tomorrow. They travel to New York to face the Islanders, face off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
