The Gophers split with Michigan State this past weekend wasn’t enough to hang onto the No. 1 spot in the most recent USCHO.com national poll.
Instead, St. Cloud State, who swept formerly-No. 20 UMD over the weekend, received 33 first-place votes to the U of M’s 14 first-place ballots, and moved to the top spot 20 points clear of Minnesota.
UMD dropped out of the poll, sitting 35 points away from re-entering the national rankings, and Minnesota State continues to inch towards having a number next to their name, just two spots away from breaking into the top 20.
The Gophers are off until after the holiday break, so unless the Huskies drop one of their games to No. 10 Union this weekend, SCSU will likely remain the No. 1 team in the land until 2014.
