The newest members of the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame are Torii Hunter and John Gordon.
Hunter, who retired last season, played 19 years in the big leagues – 12 of them with the Twins. Gordon was a Twins radio broadcaster from 1987-2011.
“The Pohlad family and entire Minnesota Twins organization would like to congratulate both Torii Hunter and John Gordon on their election to the Twins Hall of Fame,” Twins President Dave St. Peter said in a statement. “Both Torii and John are richly deserving of this incredible honor for their many contributions to this franchise – both on the field and in the broadcast booth. It’s fitting that Torii and John will be inducted on the same weekend considering they are two of the biggest personalities and greatest ambassadors the Twins organization has ever known.”
The Twins eliminated a two-year waiting period just to get Hunter on the ballot, knowing that he was a likely selection by the 66-member voting panel.
Hunter and Gordon will be inducted to the club in separate ceremonies at Target Field on July 16-17 during a series against the Cleveland Indians.
Hunter was in the news earlier this month after he wrote a funny column for The Players’ Tribune, and he’ll be signing autographs at TwinsFest on Friday from 8-9 p.m.
