What looked like a great start for Kevin Correia quickly turned into a tough loss as the Tigers rallied to beat the Twins, 4-1 at Comerica Park in Detroit Wednesday night.
Corriea cruised through 6 2/3 innings without giving up a run, but he couldn’t get the third out of the seventh.
Back-to-back singles set the table for ex-Twin Torii Hunter, who ripped a Correia pitch to deep right center for a two-run double.
Hunter’s clutch hit gave the Tigers the lead, 2-1.
Minnesota grabbed the lead in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI single by Brian Dozier.
After intentionally walking Miguel Cabrera, the Twins yanked Correia and replaced him with left-hander, Caleb Thielbar.
Detroit scored twice with Thielbar on the mound. All four runs were charged to Correia, although only two were earned.
Recently called up reliever Michael Tonkin pitched the eighth and gave up a three-run double to Cabrera, who leads the majors with 123 RBI.
