The Twins dropped the first game of their split doubleheader Wednesday, falling 6-3 to the Boston Red Sox.
It was the second straight game that Minnesota struggled to hit the ball as Boston starter Eduardo Rodriguez held the Twins to one run on two hits in seven innings. The young lefty also fanned seven Twins hitters in the game.
On the other hand the Red Sox tee’d off on Twins starter Phil Hughes (4-5). He last just 4 1/3 innings, while giving up five runs on 11 hits. It was Hughes’ first loss since early in the season.

With the Twins down 1-0 in the third inning, Brian Dozier pulled Minnesota even with his team-leading 10th home run of the year. But Boston retook the lead for good in the bottom of the third.
Minnesota’s only other runs came on a two-run homer from Eduardo Escobar in the ninth inning.
Dustin Pedroia continued to frustrate the Twins though, he finished the afternoon he finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Xander Bogaerts was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored and Mike Napoli added a solo home run for good measure in the seventh. David Ortiz was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
