It’s been a little more than a week since the Timberwolves traded Derrick Williams to the Sacramento Kings.
Williams, the man some fans and analysts believe is the biggest miss in Wolves’ NBA Draft history, is off to a pretty good start with the Kings.
In three games with Sacramento Williams is averaging 9.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. The numbers aren’t mind-blowing by any means, but they’re significantly better than the 4.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game he was averaging with the Wolves.
Why more production? Simple. He’s playing more minutes. Williams is playing 26.7 minutes per game with the Kings – nearly double what he was getting in Minnesota (14.7 minutes).
Bleacher Report says it was a gamble to trade for Williams, but they “like the bets this (Kings owners/GM) regime is placing.”
An article from Yahoo! Sports says the change of scenery could allow Williams to flourish in the NBA.
Regardless, Williams has provided the Kings with an athletic boost.
