Golly, there are a lot of Minnesota teams ranked in college hockey. Have you ever noticed that? That hockey is a pretty big deal around here?
There are four teams ranked in some way, shape or form in the latest Division I polls, with the Minnesota Gophers leading the pack and the UMD Bulldogs picking up the rear in one poll.
Let’s start with the USA Today poll, in which the Gophers moved up from fifth to third, and your St. Cloud State Huskies slipped from ninth to 11th. There are only 15 spots in that poll.
Then there’s the more expansive USCHO rankings, which also has the Gophers moving up two spots to third, and the Huskies falling two to 11th.
Minnesota State University, Mankato (still known to some of us as Mankato State) dropped from 11th to 18th in that poll, and the University of Minnesota-Duluth cracked the top 20, and number 20, for the first time this season.
