The rookie season of Aaron Hicks is one to forget.
His season ended on Sunday when his name wasn’t one of the seven announced by the Twins as September call-ups.
A .222 batting average in 21 games at Triple-A Rochester will do that to a guy — especially after hitting .192 in 81 regular season games with the Twins.
Hicks flashed with multi-home run games and home run robberies, but he failed to hit with any sort of consistency.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire likened Hicks’ season to the season that Brian Dozier had in 2012.
“This is kind of like the Dozier thing last year,” Gardenhire told the Pioneer Press. “This is good for him. This is a good breather for him. Hopefully, he’ll come back with a little attitude and see what he does in spring next year.”
Dozier’s 2012 rookie season wasn’t very good. He hit .234 with six home runs and 34 RBI. He’s turned things around this season with a slightly better average (.243) with 17 home runs and 60 RBI.
